Aluminum profiles are profiles with specific cross-sectional shapes and sizes made by extruding and casting aluminum or aluminum alloy materials, which are widely used in many fields such as construction, industry, and transportation. The following are common types of aluminum profiles:
Classification by Processing
Extruded Aluminum Profiles
- Principle: The heated aluminum billet is put into the extrusion barrel, and the pressure is applied through the extrusion rod, so that the aluminum billet is extruded from the die holes of the extrusion die, so as to obtain the profiles with the required cross sectional shapes and sizes.
- Characteristics: It can produce all kinds of complex cross-section profiles with high dimensional precision, good surface quality and excellent mechanical properties.
- Applications: architectural doors and windows, curtain walls, industrial automation equipment frames, automotive parts and so on.
Casting Aluminum Profiles
- Principle: Pour the molten aluminum liquid into the pre-made molds, and after it cools and solidifies, get the desired shape of aluminum profiles.
- Characteristics: Can manufacture large, complex-shaped parts, but there may be internal defects such as porosity, shrinkage and other defects, and the mechanical properties are relatively uneven.
- Applications: bases of large mechanical equipment, engine blocks, etc.
Rolled Aluminum Profile
- Principle: Through the gap of a pair of rotating rolls (various shapes), due to the compression of the rolls to make the material cross-section reduced, the length of the increase in the pressure processing method.
- Characteristics: high production efficiency, high dimensional accuracy of the product, good surface quality, but large investment in equipment, complex process.
- Applications: Aluminum plates, strips, foils, etc., which are widely used in packaging, electronics, construction and other fields.
Classification by Alloy Composition
Series 1 Aluminum Profiles (Pure Aluminum Profiles)
- Ingredients: Containing more than 99.00% of aluminum, with very few impurities.
- Characteristics: low density, good electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, but low strength, high plasticity, can be various pressure processing.
- Applications: mainly used for making wires, cables, radiators, chemical equipment, etc..
Series 2 Aluminum Profiles (Aluminum-Copper Alloy)
- Ingredients: copper as the main alloying element, copper content is generally between 2.2% – 6.8%.
- Characteristics: high strength, good heat resistance, but poor corrosion resistance, general processing performance.
- Applications: Commonly used in aerospace field, such as aircraft structural parts, engine parts, etc.
Series 3 Aluminum Profiles (Aluminum-Manganese Alloy)
- Ingredients: Manganese is the main alloying element, and the manganese content is generally between 1.0% – 1.6%.
- Characteristics: good rust resistance, higher strength than 1 series aluminum, good processing performance, but poor welding performance.
- Application: Widely used in building decoration, kitchen utensils, food packaging and other fields, such as building doors and windows, curtain walls, cans and so on.
Series 5 Aluminum Profiles (Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy)
- Ingredients: magnesium as the main alloying element, magnesium content is generally between 3% – 5%.
- Characteristics: low density, high strength, good corrosion resistance, excellent welding performance, but poor cutting and processing performance.
- Application: Commonly used in marine environment, transportation and other fields, such as ships, automobiles, aircraft and other parts.
Series 6 Aluminum Profiles (Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy)
- Ingredients: the main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon, the magnesium content is generally between 0.8% – 1.2%, and the silicon content is generally between 0.4% – 0.8%.
- Characteristics: It has good workability, weldability, malleability and medium strength, and can obtain high strength and hardness after heat treatment.
- Application: It is one of the most widely used aluminum profiles, commonly used in building doors and windows, curtain walls, industrial automation equipment frames, electronic product shells, etc.
Series 7 Aluminum Profiles (Aluminum-Zinc-Magnesium-Copper Alloy)
- Ingredients: Zinc is the main alloying element, and also contains magnesium, copper and other elements, the zinc content is generally between 5% – 11%.
- Characteristics: belongs to super-hard aluminum alloy, high strength and hardness, but poor corrosion resistance, need surface treatment.
- Application: Mainly used in aerospace, high-end machinery manufacturing and other fields, such as aircraft landing gear, rocket engine parts.
